Team effort to rescue cat from block of flats

A young female cat has been rescued in Trebanog, after becoming trapped on a steep roof.

RSPCA Cymru was contacted after the visibly-frightened cat was spotted atop the two-storied block of flats, on Henllys in the South Wales village.

The animal welfare charity enlisted the support of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who had the equipment to climb the flats to reach the troubled cat.

However, the white cat with brown patches would retreat whenever approached – and ultimately firefighters had to utilise an RSPCA net to grab the cat and bring her to safety. The rescue took place on Monday (19 August).

She was safely reunited with her owners, having been missing for two days prior to being spotted on the rooftop.

RSPCA inspector Simon Evans said:

“It’s always great to be involved in a happy ending – and this young cat is now safely back home with her owners after quite the ordeal.

“The poor thing had been missing for a couple of days, and was visibly terrified on top of this two-storey building.

“Quite a crowd had gathered to watch the rescue unfold, and we’re so grateful to the firefighters for lending a hand and reaching the cat using our net and their ladders, in tricky circumstances.

“The local community really rallied around in the hope of a safe ending for this cat – and we’re delighted to have been able to play our part, and get this pet back where she belongs – safely at home.”
