The organisers of the Cardiff 10K & 2K Fun Run, Front Runner Events has announced the postponement of this year’s race.
The Cardiff 10K was due to take place next month on Sunday, 4th September 2022, but will now no longer be going ahead.
The event which was founded in 1985 by Kidney Wales is one of Wales’ largest 10k road races. It is also one of the UK’s top 5 10K’s and a favourite amongst athletes of all abilities.
When Front Runner Events took over the running of the race last year, they said if you had deferred your Cardiff 10K place because of the pandemic, they would be honoured and carried over to the 2022 event date.
However, in a statement released today, the organisers have said that they won’t be able to defer, transfer or offer refunds to runners due to the commitments already made for the 2022 race.
Instead, organisers have launched a virtual event, which will start from this Sunday.

David Martin-Jewell, Managing Director said:
“We are devastated that we are unable to host this year’s Cardiff 10K event.
“Since taking over the event in November 2021, we have been looking forward to bringing this race back to the streets of Cardiff. We’ve liaised closely with all event stakeholders but delivering the event has proven far more challenging than anticipated to achieve given the logistical and operational situations that we have encountered.
“Despite having explored a number of alternative options and scenarios in an attempt to mitigate the effect of circumstances that are sadly beyond our control, while also maintaining the nature and heritage of this race, we simply have not been able to find a viable solution.
“Front Runner Events have already committed to a number of large orders in relation to the event, which is required due to the lead-in times from suppliers. Unfortunately, therefore, we cannot defer, transfer or offer refunds to runners due to the monies committed or already spent. However, there will be a virtual event to enable runners to make the most of their training and fundraising efforts.
“As frustrating as this is, we were not expecting so many challenges across such a wide range of areas. We are confident that the event will continue to grow when it returns in 2023.
“The virtual event will take place from 09.00 Sunday August 7th and will end at 19.00 on Sunday 11th September 2022. All participants will need to provide evidence that the distance has been achieved and, once received, and approved, all participants will receive a finishers goody bag containing a medal and tee shirt that will be sent by post. It must be clear that the distance was run between the 2 dates to qualify.
“All corporate entrants will be contacted in due course to discuss all options.
“We thank you for your patience and understanding.
