Join us as we go behind the scenes to check out the amazing progress being made at the ‘living building’ development taking shape in Swansea city centre.
Made up of the former Woolworths unit on Oxford Street and a new adjoining tower, the development is due for completion in 2025.
Led by Hacer Developments and part of the city’s £1bn regeneration programme, the completed scheme will include exhibition space, offices and 50 apartments to be run by Pobl.
An urban farm-style greenhouse set over four floors will also feature, along with community gardens and green spaces, balcony grow boxes, an educational facility, retail, a landscaped courtyard, rooftop solar panels and thermal store.
Internal fitting-out of the tower area is now ongoing, with work to install the giant greenhouse soon due to start. The greenhouse will include a winter garden meeting room for the development’s office users.
The scheme is even now attracting global attention too, with the project announcing a Commitment to Action at the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) 2024 Annual Meeting in New York City.
Schemes led by the council include the nearby 71/72 Kingsway development, which will become a space for hundreds of office workers. Part-funded by the Swansea Bay City Deal, work on that development will soon be complete.
The refurbished Palace Theatre building will also be reopening on Thursday November 7, following-on from the opening of the Albert Hall in September.
