The Verdict: Depot in the Castle

Following the success of Depot in the Park last year, the hit family festival returned last weekend.

Depot in the Castle 2018

The summer vibes were certainly flowing in the festival’s brand new location, in the grounds of Cardiff Castle, and with this stunning backdrop and the summer sun, there was no better place to be.

From a personal point of view, I’m really pleased that events like these exist. We are a family of three with a four-year-old, so as you’d imagine, we haven’t been to any sort of music festival in a while, unless it’s been Cbeebies related.

We missed out on tickets to Depot in the Park last year, so when we heard about the festival returning in 2018, we knew we couldn’t let the opportunity pass us by to attend.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not Glastonbury or V Festival, but it has the vibes and you can’t fault the city centre location… I mean come on, just look, it’s a festival in a castle. Da iawn!

Let’s just say if you’re looking to experience your first festival, especially as a young family, and want that close to home, safe family-friendly environment, along with some killer tunes, this is the festival for you. It certainly was for us.

This year’s legendary line-up included The Fratellis, Sister Sledge, and Hackney Colliery Band amongst many others. There was also a host of children’s activities such as glitter art (always a festival favourite), have-a-go circus tricks, which we failed miserably at, as well as balloon modelling and crafts.
