Swansea is brimming with festive spirit this Christmas with lots of free and low cost things to do for the whole family.
Bringing the feel of an Alpine village to the city is Waterfront Winterland, now open at Museum Park until 5 January. New for 2024, enjoy the lights and capture family selfies in the enchanting Christmas themed lantern trail.
The city centre Christmas Market is now open, until 22 December. Thousands of gift options are also available in the Quadrant Shopping Centre, Swansea Indoor Market and city centre shops.
Jack and the Beanstalk is on at Swansea Grand Theatre from 7 December until 5 January, where one of the nation’s favourite broadcasters, Scott Mills will take the stage.
The Friends of Oystermouth Castle will open the doors to the castle and invite you to join them within the castle for a festive singalong on 14 December, for their magical Carols at the Castle.
This December, experience Carols & Capers at Taliesin Arts Centre, with folk legends Maddy Prior & The Carnival Band; catch Dyad theatre company’s, reimagining of Dickens’ Christmas Carol live on stage or be whisked away to the world of Dahl’s extraordinary tales in the interactive show Roald Dahl and The Imagination Seekers.
The National Waterfront Museum is free entry and will host a Winter Vintage and Makers Market from 7-8 December. The festive season will also see a host of quiz nights, The Big Museum Winter Trail, a special story time and festive workshops.
Swansea Museum has free exhibitions and events throughout the month, including a ticketed wreath making workshop on 1 December.
The Glynn Vivian has exhibitions on Out of this World, by Heather Wilson, Voice Figures by Margaret Watts Hughes or Skin Phillips, 360°, all open until 5 January.
New for 2024 the Dylan Thomas Centre announce the Snowball Trail, open Wednesday to Sunday and Swansea’s 17 public libraries are holding festive events free of charge.

Our free buses initiative will help everyone get about at weekends and during Christmas week this festive season. So we’re pleased to be helping out in practical and fun ways in the festive countdown and beyond.
“The city centre Christmas lights and the two city centre Christmas trees look great and are a really welcoming sight for shoppers and businesses alike. The traditional Christmas Market in Oxford Street is back as well.
“Christmas in Swansea has never been better and we’re hoping it’ll give a boost for businesses and a lift to communities across the city.”
