wo properties are currently being re-developed in the Town Centre with help from Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Programme.
Highfield Property Group, a Merthyr Tydfil based developer is undertaking work on 120 & 121 High Street as well as 143B High Street.
The previously empty properties at 120 & 121 High Street have been combined to create a development opportunity that maximizes potential. By merging the two addresses, the developer will be able to offer a larger and more versatile space for a future tenant.
Following the renovations, the ground floor and the cellar will be transformed into a welcoming bar and hospitality space, providing a new and exciting venue for social gatherings and further enhancing the evening economy in Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre. Additionally, the floors above will be developed into five modern apartments, offering comfortable and convenient living spaces.
These apartments will be offered as private rental that cater to a diverse range of people, including those from the local area as well as those who may be looking to commute to or from Merthyr Tydfil via the new Metro/Bus Station.
Additionally, the well-known building at 143B High Street, formerly known as ‘Pizza Time’, has been derelict for a number of years. The building has now been re-designed to accommodate a new restaurant and hospitality business with the aim to complement the already thriving businesses down at the lower end of the High Street, the daytime / evening economy and to contribute to the overall vibrancy of the area.
The interior of the building has undergone a transformation to enhance the flow and functionality of the space. The goal was to enhance the area and aesthetics of the building while honouring its history and unique architectural elements. The developer believes that the changes made will greatly improve the overall experience of the property while maintaining its original charm.
Rob Price, Director at Highfields Property Group commented: “Highfield Property Group is committed to investment and regeneration within Merthyr Tydfil. We have a long-term aim of continuing to invest in the local area and in particular, the town centre. Without the support of the Local Authority, long term strategic regeneration would not be achievable, and we look forward to working with them on further projects.”
Cllr Jamie Scriven, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Housing and Public Protection commented: “We are grateful for the opportunity to be supporting both important projects and are committed to supporting the high-quality re-development of vacant Town Centre buildings of that will benefit the local community and economy. We look forward to the positive impact these re-developments will have on the town and its residents.”
