Wales-based chefs shortlisted in olive magazine’s 2019 Chef Awards

After a successful launch last year, olive’s Chef Awards are back, saluting the unheralded chefs who have been quietly excelling in the background – all nominated by the hungry public. Focussing on the people, rather than the places, the awards commend the hard-working chefs that have dedicated their lives to having a positive impact on the way we eat.

Jon White of The Two Anchors in Cardiff has been shortlisted for the Best Street-Food Chef award for their fresh, sustainable seafood. They are located at Sticky Fingers Street Food in Roath.

Gareth Ward, chef at Ynyshir near Machynlleth is up for The Innovator award, recognised for his Japanese-influenced tasting menu.

olive asked the public to nominate the chefs who they thought deserved to be on the shortlist across eight categories: Sustainable Star, Best Street-Food Chef, Veggie Pioneer, The Innovator, Best Pastry Chef, Best Baker, Community Champion and Small but Mighty.

The 30 shortlisted nominees have now been announced, featuring some of the most creative, inventive and up-and-coming chefs from across the UK.

Judging will now commence with a panel of expert judges including, olive magazine editor Laura Rowe, Bristol-based journalist and restaurant inspector Mark Taylor, co-founder of gourmet Indian restaurant, Jamavar, Samyukta Nair, and professional chef, cookbook author and founder of Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, Zoe Adjonyoh.

Laura Rowe, olive magazine editor says; “It’s always so satisfying to see how many incredibly talented chefs, from all corners of the UK, have been nominated and championed by their local customers in these awards. From a chef cooking pizza out of a tiny trailer in Brighton to one that’s developed an innovative, carbon-sensitive fine-dining concept in St Andrews, our shortlist represents the best of Britain and I can’t wait to start the judging process to whittle it down to the deserving winners!”

The winners of the olive 2019 Chef Awards will be announced in the Christmas issue of olive magazine, on sale November 15th, and online at www.olivemagazine.com/chef-awards/
