The English Premier League is arguably the world’s most popular and distinguished domestic sporting competition due to the wide scale attention that a majority of teams often draw towards their various outings, as well as the sheer star power that is on display during a weekly basis.
While the English game has always garnered an immense amount of popularity since the league’s earliest few years, the Premier League’s establishment back in 1992 was the true landmark occasion that has taken English football into the epicenter of sheer amounts of wealth and prestige.
Despite the opening few years of the league originally allowing a total of 22 different clubs to compete at the topflight, this has since been rectified to 20 teams who will all be battling amongst each other for various different reasons.
Some teams near the summit of the table will be salivating a chance to lift the prestigious league title, others in and around the ‘top six’ to midtable will be pondering over the chance to earn qualification to some of the European competitions for next season, whilst the teams near the foot of the table will be fighting for their lives to avoid relegation down to the EFL Championship second division.
Given that the Premier League has retained its image as the greatest domestic football competition in the world today, footballers are competing at the topflight are now earning a monumental sum of salary that is often factored in with their antics both on and off the pitch.
Premier League footballers who represent the league’s most prestigious and vastly popular clubs will often earn much higher wages compared to lower ranked opposition which has been further elevated with the recent endorsements deals, media coverage and transfer fiascos that most teams and individuals in the game so often embark on.

The most recent January transfer window saw the likes of Chelsea FC spend a grand total of £286 million on arrivals alone, which has taken their total spent for the season up to £539 million after a prior summer spending spree.
Chelsea also smashed the British transfer record on the arrival of Argentine international Enzo Fernandez for a whopping £106 million which also included high wages offered to some of other signings and even a £10 million loan fee for the temporary services of Joao Felix.
This is a major factor for the increase in earnings for the league’s most renowned names as teams will now offer an extraordinary amount of money to both pay their initial transfer fee to their parent club, as well as offering high amounts of wages to cater to their new star player’s requirements.
Even contract extensions are now so often met with high amounts of spending to greatly improve a players wage as the fabled ‘top six’ will often get a much greater chance to draw in the best talent around thanks to their near endless amounts of wealth, compared to the lower clubs who simply cannot compete with the financial obstacles surrounding their neighboring competitors.
There are other factors that have now contributed towards this sudden increase in a Premier League footballers wage, with some of these including TV rights deals to the ‘Top Six’ games who will always gain more priority, financial takeovers and a player’s value towards the clubs identity and brand.
The game has evolved at a considerable rate that includes more improvement in the infrastructure and facilities that are presented to teams, with players wages also benefiting greatly during the league’s continuous longevity of development.
